Gerente General del canal: Rodrigo Piza
Rodrigo Piza llega a Locomotion tras haber sido director de Nelvana Enterprises, empresa con sede en el Reino Unido, dedicada al desarrollo de programas de animación, donde se encargó de la distribución de animación para televisión, video doméstico y salas de cine en los territorios de América latina, Australia y los Estados Unidos hispanos. También fue responsable del merchandising, el marketing y la promoción de diversas marcas, así como de la financiación y la coproducción de determinados proyectos. Colaboró estrechamente con artistas, animadores, guionistas e ilustradores en el desarrollo de diversas propiedades. También fue director de licencias mundiales del conocido personaje Babar.
Con una gran experiencia en el ámbito del entretenimiento infantil Pizá se desempeñó como director general de Locomotion Channel. Puesto en el que se desempeñó con gran éxito, ya que no sólo fue responsable del contenido editorial, de la comercialización y de la dirección creativa del canal, sino que también desempeñó un papel central en establecer la estrategia de las operaciones del canal, de la publicidad, de las ventas de afiliados y de los planes de negocio. Es así que, en 1999, Pizá relanzó con éxito el canal para colocarlo como la primer señal 24 horas dedicada a la animación para jóvenes adultos en América latina, España y Portugal.
Born in México City, he began his career in 1994 when he joined Nelvana Limited in Toronto Canada as sales executive for Latin America based in Toronto and Paris. He was promoted in 1997 to Director of Nelvana Enterprises UK and relocated to London, extending his responsibilities to include distribution, merchandising and co-productions with Australia, Japan and the Asian markets.
In 1999 he joined The Locomotion Channel as General Manager and relocated to Miami Florida. He positioned Locomotion as a unique 24-hour high quality animation channel for young-adults in Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
He directed an energetic young creative staff that helped Locomotion win the hearts and minds of young adults. Under his leadership Locomotion won multiple awards including eight prestigious BDA/Promax International Awards for its unique branding.
In 2001 he produced and directed the animated series “El Santos” based on the popular comic characters created by the award-winning authors Jis & Trino.
In 2002 he executive produced and launched the Argentinean pop band MIRANDA!. They went on the win multiple awards including “Best Alternative Band” and best “South American” band at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV VMA LA), “Best Band” at the Festival de Viña del Mar 2006 in Chile and “Best Band” and “Best Video” for the MTV VMA LA 2006.
He influenced the television landscape by developing a new generation of viewers that enjoy his programming approach which included award winning prime time series such as “South Park”, “Bob and Margaret”, “Ren and Stimpy”, “Dr. Katz” and “Duckman”.
He popularized Japanese animation in Latin America and was the first to broadcast groundbreaking series such as “Evangelion”, “Lain”, “Alexander”, “Cowboy Bebop”, “Arjuna”, “HACK Sign”, and acclaimed feature films such as “Akira”, “Jin-Roh” and “Ghost in the Shell”.
In 2005 he relocated to Toronto Canada, to produce his first feature film “¿Te Veré en el Desayuno?” based on the novel written by the renowned Mexican author Guillermo Fadanelli. A Canada/Mexico co-production, the film was made in part by the participation of Canal Once (CH11) of Mexico and Comité del Desayuno Inc. and Content One Inc. of Canada.
In 2007 he joined HIT Entertainment, the premier children’s producer as Vice President of TV Latin America and will be relocating to New York City.
His photographic works have been shown in London, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and most recently at Exit Art Gallery in New York.
Rodrigo Piza is a member of the International Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves as a judge for various editions of the “International Emmy Awards
